It was in the pipeline and it is now official: the 2026-2027 version of National Foot 1 will ultimately only start on Saturday, October 24, 2026. The information was made public by the National Professional Football League (LINAFP), which took the opportunity to lay out the entire season’s calendar. This slight delay prolongs the supporters’ wait and leaves the clubs a few weeks of respite to put the finishing touches on their preparation.
The 24 hours preceding the resumption will be closely scrutinized as all participants are on the starting line. Because while the calendar has shifted, the appetite has not changed. The respective coaching staffs will have to optimize a preparation that is being stretched out. They will have to work on maintaining the physical fitness and cohesion of a group deprived of official competition. In the locker rooms, everyone is champing at the bit as everyone wants to finally get down to business.
The curtain will therefore rise next October 24 for a marathon that will end on May 22, 2027. Thus, 7 months of battle, of home traps and tricky away trips, where the ambitions of some and the hopes of survival for others will be played out. It goes without saying that only the most resilient can hope to keep up the frantic pace. On the side of National Foot 2, the gateway to the elite, it will be necessary to wait until November 2026 to see the matches begin.
This season could be the revenge for many teams. Must we recall that the last edition delivered its undeniable verdict with another title for Association sportive de Mangasport. The Comilog club was crowned champion of Gabon at the end of a successful campaign, where the miners managed to make the difference over the long haul. Behind them, Stade Mandji hung on to its rival for a long time before cracking toward the end. It remains to be seen whether Mangasport will manage to keep its crown or if CF Mounana, Oyem AC, or 105 will be ravenous.
