In the province of Haut-Katanga, two clerics from the Catholic parish of Marie Notre Secours, located in the Munama district, in the Annexe commune of Lubumbashi, were seriously wounded by gunfire on the night of Sunday, October 4 to Monday, October 5, 2026, during an armed attack.
The incident occurred around 1:30 in the morning. Armed men broke into the parish compound and opened fire on Father Patrick Mwenya, bursar of the community, as well as Brother Évariste Ilunga, who is in charge of the cash desk.
According to several consistent sources, the attackers reportedly forced entry into the premises before shooting the two clerics. They then reportedly made off with a sum of money belonging to the community, specifically funds intended for the operation of the school, before fleeing.
Seriously injured, the two victims were evacuated to Don Bosco to receive medical care. Their health condition has not yet been officially communicated.
The identity and exact number of the attackers remain unknown. The precise circumstances of this attack are still being verified.
