The Government has disbursed a substantial sum of GH¢23.1 billion to resolve outstanding debts owed by road contractors across the country, marking a significant milestone in the administration of President John Damo-Mahama’s administration, as revealed by Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwami Governs Agbodza. This significant financial outlay is a direct response to the ongoing initiatives under the ‘Big Push’ infrastructure program.

During a recent inspection of the Navrongo-Chuchuliga-Tumu Road project, conducted as part of his two-day Resetting Ghana Tour of the Upper East Region, Minister Agbodza stated this during a press conference. The inspection, initiated by President Mahama, highlighted the need for addressing existing issues across the region, a priority underscored by the President’s commitment to continued project development.

Mr. Agbodza explained that since President Mahama inherited the existing infrastructure, he has also been undertaking new projects, demonstrating a proactive approach to national development. He emphasized that the disbursement of GH¢23.1 billion represents a significant portion of these arrears, a figure that underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring the smooth operation of the nation’s transportation network. The Minister further noted that the government’s focus extends beyond simply clearing existing debts; it includes a broader commitment to the long-term maintenance and improvement of roads throughout the country.

The Minister stressed that there were numerous issues across the country that required immediate attention, and that the government had initiated a comprehensive review of these problems. He highlighted that the government has invested heavily in the construction of roads across the country, and stated that MyTurn, the contractor responsible for the Navrongo-Chuchuliga-Tumu link, is on track to complete the project ahead of schedule.

Furthermore, the government’s confidence in MyTurn’s ability to complete the crucial link is evident, with the Minister predicting that the project will be finished in the coming months. The route connecting the Navrongo-Chuchuliga-Tumu links, Bolgatanga, the Upper East Regional Capital to Wa, the Upper West Regional Capital, is a critical component of national connectivity. The government’s investment in infrastructure is viewed as a key driver for economic growth and regional development, and this substantial disbursement is a tangible demonstration of its commitment to progress.

The disbursement of GH¢23.1 billion is a direct result of the ongoing ‘Big Push’ infrastructure program, reflecting the government’s dedication to strengthening the nation’s transportation network and promoting economic prosperity. The initiative has been a focal point of the President’s agenda for several years, with a clear focus on improving connectivity and reducing travel times across the country.
