The Head of Public Affairs at the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), John Kapi, has vigorously refuted claims that the Council deliberately targeted private schools during the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results. Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show, Mr. Kapi stated that WAEC conducted an internal assessment of the BECE results and found no basis for the allegations raised by some private schools.

According to Mr. Kapi, WAEC had already addressed concerns at a press conference last Thursday, where the Council unequivocally rejected the allegations of deliberate targeting of private schools. ‘We had a press conference last Thursday and told them what the private schools are saying is not true, so they should disregard it,’ he emphasized. However, he stressed that WAEC was prepared to investigate any specific concerns supported by evidence. ‘If you have any issues with the results, we will accept you and allow you to prove that you have issues. Our doors are wide open,’ he stated.

Mr. Kapi clarified that where evidence presented by a school or candidate is found to be valid after verification against WAEC’s records, the Council would take appropriate action. ‘If you bring proof and we check from our system and realize that you are right, then we will do something about it. But if it has no merit, then we cannot do anything about it,’ he added.
