The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has issued a new directive concerning ex-pump price floors for petroleum products, effective August 4, 2026, a move designed to stabilize the fuel market and mitigate inflationary pressures. The announcement follows a statement released Monday, August 3rd, indicating that the NPA has determined new minimum prices based on the Petroleum Product Pricing Guidelines (PPPG) and intends to be strictly enforced by all Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and LPG Marketing Companies (LPGMCs). The revised pricing structure, detailed in the NPA’s official statement, establishes a minimum price of GH¢14.53 per litre for petrol, GH¢14.97 per litre for diesel, GH¢11.06 per kilogramme for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), GH¢16.08 per litre for marine gas oil (MGO Local), and GH¢14.46 per litre for kerosene. The NPA has explicitly directed all OMCs and LPGMCs to diligently adhere to these approved price floors throughout the entire pricing window, August 4th to August 15th, 2026. Clarifying the scope of this directive, the NPA emphasized that the new prices do not include premiums levied by International Oil Trading Companies (IOTCs), the operating margins of Bulk Import, Distribution, and Export Companies (BIDECs), or the marketers’ and dealers’ margins of OMCs and LPGMCs. The authority has explained that these supplementary costs will be determined independently by each company, in accordance with the Petroleum Product Pricing Guidelines. In a related move, the Presidency has announced a temporary reduction of GH¢2 per litre on diesel, effective during the same pricing window, to address rising fuel prices and alleviate transportation costs. This intervention, initiated by President John Dramani Mahama, is anticipated to provide some relief to consumers and contribute to controlling inflationary pressures. GoldBod has denied a claim of a GH¢200 million loss involving Dominic Bonsu Ventures.
