President John Dramani Mahama has called for a national stakeholder engagement on hate speech, abusive online content, and responsible digital communication, aiming to address increasing instances of harmful content on social media. President Bagbin endorsed this call, stressing that efforts to combat harmful content should not suppress legitimate dissent or criticism of public officials. He emphasized a balance between protecting freedom of expression and addressing genuinely harmful content, stating the national conversation must be broad, inclusive, and measured, avoiding threats, incitement, and the abuse of others. The Speaker urged parliamentary involvement and the Committees to be proactive in the national conversation, indicating that criticism of public officials is essential but should not result in the degradation of public discourse.
