Plea-deal witnesses could become the heart of the government’s case as Lil Durk’s August 20 murder-for-hire trial begins. Lil Durk will enter his murder-for-hire trial facing witnesses who already signed plea deals with federal prosecutors and agreed to testify if called. The disclosure landed Monday in the government’s final trial memo, detailing the prosecution’s strategy for utilizing these witnesses. Prosecutors stated that every cooperating witness must ‘fully cooperate with the government,’ remain ‘honest and forthcoming,’ and give ‘truthful testimony.’ Their names remain hidden because the government’s witness list was filed under seal Friday. The filing also does not reveal what each witness admitted. That leaves Durk’s lawyers with an obvious attack. If the defense attacks a witness over a deal, prosecutors want permission to show jurors the promise to tell the truth. That clause does not prove honesty. Jurors still decide whom to believe. The timing matters. Prosecutors cannot raise that promise first because it may sound like they are guaranteeing a witness. The filing says the door opens if Durk’s lawyers attack a cooperator’s truthfulness. The government is already preparing for that fight. The insiders will support a case built around messages, travel records, surveillance video, and phone data. Prosecutors expect their presentation to last 11 to 13 court days. Agreements over basic records could remove eight to ten witnesses from the lineup. Durk, Deandre Wilson, and David Lindsey are scheduled for trial August 20. They face five charges tied to the 2022 Los Angeles ambush of Quando Rondo. Prosecutors claim a stalking and murder plot ended with the death of Rondo’s cousin, Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson. All three have pleaded not guilty.
The government claims the revenge campaign began after King Von was killed in Atlanta on November 6, 2020. Prosecutors plan to argue the crew tried to kill Rondo in Georgia in May 2021, tracked him in Los Angeles in August 2022 and kept hunting him. One planned exhibit is a December 2022 burner-phone exchange. Prosecutors claim Durk rejected an offer to end the feud, writing, “I’m not hopping on the phone to squash” it because “this for thang and von.” They say a later voice message added that Rondo “can die.”
The government also plans to show jurors a group chat called “The Family.” In August 2023, members allegedly discussed fears that one participant was ‘ready to snitch.’ Prosecutors say the same thread captures Durk complaining that other King Von associates had left the retaliation to his crew. Prosecutors will use those messages and the deal witnesses to argue Durk was not a bystander. They claim he led the group and kept the plot alive after Robinson’s killing. A second trial over separate racketeering counts remains unscheduled. The government said it asked Durk’s lawyers for dates on July 28 and August 5 but had received no answer by Monday.
