Polish tennis player Iga Swiatek defeated Croatia’s Donna Vekic in the third round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing, China. Swiatek lost the first set and trailed 2:5 in the second, but won the match 4:6, 7:6 (0), 6:2, Interia Sport reports.
In the first set, Vekic broke serve in the third game, took a 3:1 lead and maintained her advantage until the end of the set — 6:4. It took her 51 minutes. At the start of the second set, the Croatian again broke her opponent’s serve and later extended her lead to 5:2. Vekic had two service games to finish the match.
Swiatek changed the course of the game by playing more aggressively. She recovered one break and then won four games in a row to take the lead — 6:5. Vekic levelled the score and sent the set into a tiebreak, but the Pole did not concede a single point in it.

At the start of the third set, Swiatek took the lead with a break, but Vekic immediately broke back. At 2:2 and 30:30 on the Croatian’s serve, the Polish tennis player broke again. After that, she did not lose another game and finished the set 6:2.
Before the match in Beijing, Swiatek had defeated Vekic four times in head-to-head meetings. In the battle for a place in the quarterfinals, the Pole will play the winner of the match between Iva Jovic and Kamilla Rakhimova.
