The demolition of structures at the La Pleasure Beach Resort and Polo Beach Club in Accra has left vendors, operators and businesses worried about their livelihoods after a dawn security operation cleared the beachfront of the Resort.
The exercise, which began at about 4 a.m. on Friday, was carried out under National Security supervision and affected Vienna City Club, Polo Beach Club, shops, stalls and pub sheds.
The demolition triggered anger among affected operators, who said they were not informed of the exact date and were unable to remove their belongings.
Some said they had depended on the beach for years and had suddenly lost their source of income.
One operator, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said businesses had existed at the beach for generations and supported people beyond those operating directly there too. Read More
