Coodie has unveiled a colossal cultural vault featuring Ye alongside decades of rarely viewed Chicago music history captured through his camera, promising a massive archive that will reach well beyond the superstar rapper’s reach. The project, spearheaded by Coodie Simmons, is aiming to open a vast collection documenting Hip-Hop and Chicago culture across decades, a move that’s been described as a ‘vault’ of unprecedented scale. Coodie says his collection includes 546 hours connected to Ye as part of a larger 3,000-hour archival project planned through his website, ‘Creativecontrol.tv.’ The larger collection reportedly extends far beyond Ye’s career, encompassing Hip-Hop, lifestyle, fashion, and Chicago culture from the 1990s through the present.
Coodie emphasized that the collection will deliver news to inboxes since 1999, highlighting the significant volume of footage he has captured, and that the project’s scope extends far beyond what’s currently available. The project’s initial announcement came at a particularly interesting moment for Ye watchers, with Coodie recently shared previously unseen footage showcasing Ye and Kid Cudi working on ‘Ghost Town,’ offering a rare glimpse into the creative process behind the celebrated 2018 collaboration. This clip surfaced shortly after Ye and Cudi reunited onstage at Soldier Field in Chicago. The trio performed ‘Father Stretch My Hands, Pt. 1’ and ‘Ghost Town’ during the Chicago reunion. Cudi also performed ‘Pursuit of Happiness.’ Their appearance carried extra weight because their friendship had publicly fractured years earlier.
Coodie’s camera has long been documenting Chicago and Hip-Hop before Kanye West became Ye.
