This ambitious undertaking, spearheaded by the Minister of State, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, was announced on Tuesday, and details revealed a complex infrastructure overhaul. The project’s core components include a 7-storey car park, with a capacity exceeding 2,000 parking bays, a strategically designed hotel complex, and a dedicated pedestrian walkway extending to the terminal building. Furthermore, the development incorporates a sky lounge and an observation deck, offering panoramic views of aircraft landings and take-offs – a crucial element for both airport operations and visitor experience.
Prior to this, the Managing Director of the Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL), Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, highlighted the pressing need for a larger terminal facility. She explained that the existing Terminal 3 car park, currently accommodating only 513 vehicles, was demonstrably inadequate to handle the escalating passenger volume. Acknowledging this shortfall, the contractor for the new facility has already commenced extensive mobilization to the site, signifying a crucial phase of project preparation. The project is projected to be completed within a 24-month timeframe, and its funding is contingent upon the implementation of the Airport Infrastructure Development Charge, a levy introduced in April 2026, intended to bolster airport revenue and facilitate continued investment in aviation infrastructure.
