The Western Regional Police Command has executed a significant operation in Agona Nkwanta, resulting in the arrest of five suspects in connection with the robbery and murder of 40-year-old gold buyer, Seth Kobina, occurring on August 20th at approximately 8:00 p.m. at his shop located near Agona Fie, within the Western Region. This incident represents a concerning escalation in criminal activity within the area.
The deceased, identified as Seth Kobina, was shot in the chest during an attack on his gold buying shop, a significant business for the community. According to preliminary investigations, conducted through CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts, the attack occurred at a time when armed men attacked the shop, leading to Mr. Kobina’s immediate demise. The medical examiner confirmed the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the chest.
Following the initial investigation, police identified Emmanuel Amponsah, alias ‘Vandam’, as the primary suspect and the alleged leader of the gang. He was apprehended on Friday, August 21st, at a guest house in Agona Nkwanta, where he was subsequently searched. The search yielded a locally manufactured pistol and two live BB cartridges, indicative of a planned operation.
However, following his arrest, Amponsah reportedly exhibited symptoms of illness, prompting his transfer to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital. He was pronounced dead at the hospital on arrival, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding his death. The police are currently investigating the full details of the incident and the motive behind the crime.
Further investigation revealed that the robbery and murder were not isolated events. Police subsequently identified three additional suspects: Christopher Seyiri, identified as ‘Cross and Die’, 47; Bashiru Ibrahim, 20; and Thomas Odoom, identified as ‘Wale’, 30. A fifth suspect, Isaac Quayeson, alias ‘Last Burial’, was arrested at Denkyira Kwaboso in the Western North Region. A search of his residence revealed the recovery of a locally manufactured pistol, three live BB cartridges, a metal bar, and two cutlasses – all potentially linked to the crime.
The police have stated that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the full extent of the crime network and to identify any other individuals involved. They are currently exploring potential connections between the suspects and other criminal activities within the region. The investigation has been bolstered by the assistance of forensic experts, who are analyzing the recovered weapons and ballistic evidence.
