The Coalition of Unemployed Graduates with Disabilities has announced a peaceful picketing demonstration at the Jubilee House on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, to advocate for immediate action on the government’s failure to fulfill commitments regarding employment opportunities for persons with disabilities. This initiative follows a series of press statements, petitions, and previous engagements with government and other stakeholders over the persistent unemployment crisis facing qualified graduates with disabilities. The group, representing over 100 graduates, states that a commitment to reserve a 5% quota in public sector recruitment for people with disabilities has not been implemented, leaving many without viable employment pathways. The demonstration, organized by Gilbert Boateng Agyare, convenor of the Coalition, aims to directly confront the government and demand concrete measures to address this critical issue. According to a press release issued by the Coalition, a substantial number of graduates, including several who have been employed, are experiencing financial hardship despite possessing the necessary academic qualifications and skills. “We are utterly exhausted by empty rhetoric and symbolic gestures,” the Coalition declared, emphasizing their intention to bring demands for dignity, inclusion, and equal access to employment directly to the highest levels of government. The planned activities include a series of peaceful picketing exercises, the display of placards highlighting their concerns, and a formal address to the media. The demonstration will commence at 9:00 AM at the Accra Rehabilitation Centre, also known as the Ghana Blind Union or the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations, located near the Adabraka Polyclinic. The event is expected to draw participants from across Ghana, including journalists, human rights advocates, and the general public, who are expected to cover the demonstration through media coverage. The Coalition has also outlined its strategy to continue pursuing its demands through peaceful and lawful means until tangible progress is made. The Coalition’s statement, made by Gilbert Boateng Agyare, underscores the urgency of the situation, noting that the lack of employment opportunities for disabled graduates continues to be a significant challenge. The group emphasizes the need for immediate action to rectify the situation, highlighting the systemic exclusion faced by many graduates and their struggle to secure meaningful employment. The demonstration is part of a broader campaign aimed at amplifying the voices of hundreds of qualified graduates seeking fair opportunities to contribute to Ghana’s development. The event is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at the Jubilee House. The government has pledged a GH¢40,000 financial contribution to support the Festival of Agotime Kente.” The demonstration is expected to attract a substantial media presence, with photographers and camera crews anticipated to gather and document the event. The Coalition has stated that they intend to use the demonstration as a platform to highlight the challenges faced by disabled graduates and to advocate for their rights. The event will feature peaceful picketing, the display of placards, and a formal address to the media. The Coalition will continue to advocate for the rights and inclusion of disabled graduates. The demonstration will be held at the Jubilee House, Accra. The press release indicates that the demonstration is intended to be a significant step in raising awareness about the issues affecting graduates with disabilities. The event is a direct response to the government’s recent promises and pledges regarding employment opportunities. The event is expected to attract significant media attention and participation from various stakeholders. The demonstration is organized by the Coalition of Unemployed Graduates with Disabilities, representing over 100 graduates. The Coalition is committed to ensuring that their demands for dignity, inclusion, and equal access to employment are heard by those in power. The event is being supported by various organizations and individuals. The demonstration is part of a larger effort to promote disability inclusion in Ghana.” ”The event is expected to have a significant impact on the public discourse surrounding employment issues for disabled individuals in Ghana. The demonstration represents a crucial step in addressing a long-standing concern and ensuring the rights of all graduates to participate fully in society.
