Twenty-four youth from the Kwahu Afram Plains North and South districts have successfully completed a two-year apprenticeship skills training programme, spearheaded by World Vision Ghana, as part of the Learning Essential Competencies and Skills for Resilient NextGen (LEARN) Integrated Programme Framework (IPF). This initiative represents a significant investment in the region’s economic future, reflecting World Vision’s strategic focus on Ignite for HOPE for Every Child (FY26–30).
The ADP, comprising 38 adolescents, 22 females and 16 males, were enrolled in FY24 and subsequently expanded to FY25, into a diverse range of trades including sewing, hairdressing, masonry, carpentry, baking, welding, tiling, and auto/motor mechanics. This comprehensive training program aims to reduce youth unemployment, bolster self-reliance, and support World Vision’s vision of creating a brighter future for every child.
The ADP was formally inaugurated at Donkorkrom, a significant ceremony attended by traditional leaders, faith leaders, community members, parents, beneficiaries, and officials from World Vision Ghana. The Queen Mother of Atakora, Nana Ama Serwaa, underscored the importance of the graduates’ newfound skills, urging them to make diligent use of their acquired expertise. She also highlighted the significant challenges faced by young people in the Kwahu Afram Plains, noting the persistent unemployment situation and the critical need for targeted support.
Many beneficiaries expressed profound gratitude to World Vision Ghana, pledging to utilize their training to improve their livelihoods and contribute positively to their communities. Specifically, Mr. Felix Apeti, the Fanteakwa Cluster Manager, affirmed World Vision’s commitment to reducing youth unemployment in Ghana through this focused skills development initiative. He explained that beyond the practical training component, the graduates received essential machines and start-up toolkits, providing them with the opportunity to launch their own businesses and become independent entrepreneurs.
Furthermore, World Vision Ghana reaffirmed its dedication to significantly reducing youth unemployment in Ghana through targeted skills development and empowerment. The program incorporated a significant investment in equipment and initial business start-up tools, recognizing the vital role these resources play in fostering economic opportunity for the graduates. Mr. Apeti emphasized that the graduates’ commitment to discipline, honesty, and dedication to their craft will serve as a model for future generations, emphasizing the importance of spiritual growth through faith and hard work. He expressed confidence that the graduates would become influential figures within their communities and catalyze further opportunities for others, contributing significantly to the economic and social landscape of Kwahu Afram Plains and beyond.
