Police in the Upper East region have launched a major investigation following the arrest of 14 individuals on suspicion of cultivating and distributing narcotic drugs, specifically known as ‘wee,’ at Daliga in the Nabdam District. The operation, initiated on Sunday, August 16, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation, identified the suspects as Alex Nyaaba, 63; Charles Kolog Dombil, 30; Jenifer Ziimi, 30; Ziimi Pandan, 45; Tobire Naab, 70; Yinteng James, 59; Sandenab Peelim, 35; Abane Zamgbeog, 48; Borimi Nahou, 29; Tobil Wandabil, 27; Furimi Nabdok, 29; Nahou Dogobila, 41; Gurimi Teng, 26; and Gurimi Kugeri, 20. The police have stated that narcotics, concealed in sacks, were discovered during the operation. Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspected Indian hemp, commonly known as ‘wee,’ was being cultivated alongside millet and maize as a method of concealing the farms and hindering detection. The Public Affairs Unit of the Upper East Regional Police Command, in a statement signed by Chief Inspector Abdul-Raman Sumaila, confirmed the operation’s significance, stating that it led to the discovery of a substantial quantity of suspected narcotic drugs concealed within sacks. The statement indicated that the suspected Indian hemp was being cultivated alongside millet and maize, a tactic employed to conceal farming operations and evade surveillance. The police acknowledged that the suspects are believed to be major suppliers of narcotic drugs to several drug peddlers across the Upper East Region.
