Sekondi, Ghana – Andrew Egyapa Mercer, former Member of Parliament for the Sekondi Constituency, has made a significant donation of 10 hairdryers to the graduating hairdressing class at the prestigious 2026 institution in the region. The gesture, a longstanding commitment to supporting local artisans and bolstering entrepreneurial endeavors, underscores Mercer’s dedication to empowering Ghanaians through accessible resources. The donation, presented by the Yensuado Electoral Executives, led by Organiser Samuel Mensa Dodo, represents a tangible demonstration of Mercer’s active engagement in the community.

Mr. Mercer emphasized that graduation shouldn’t be viewed as an endpoint, but rather a crucial launchpad for individuals to establish businesses, cater to clients, and cultivate sustainable economic prosperity. He believes that even a seemingly simple tool like a hairdryer can be a vital asset for aspiring entrepreneurs, enabling them to generate income and create opportunities for others.

As a former MP, Mr. Mercer views this support as a responsibility and a privilege, highlighting the importance of empowering individuals and fostering economic independence. He stated that the informal sector remains a critical driver of Ghana’s socio-economic landscape, emphasizing the need for targeted initiatives to equip artisans, tradespeople, and small business owners with the necessary tools to maximize their potential. The donation is part of a broader effort to address the significant role of the informal sector in Ghana’s development.

Mr. Mercer acknowledged the challenges presented by the informal sector, noting its impact on the nation’s economic progress. He further commented on the dangers associated with illegal galamsey activities, urging a more proactive approach to educating the public and strengthening regulatory oversight to safeguard the environment and the well-being of communities. This initiative aligns with Mercer’s long-standing commitment to grassroots initiatives promoting economic independence and fostering positive change within Ghana. The donated hairdryers are expected to significantly enhance the skills and capabilities of the graduating hairdressers, preparing them for a successful and fulfilling careers.

According to preliminary reports, the Yensuado Electoral Executives reported that the hairdryers will be used for practical training and skill development. The equipment’s availability will undoubtedly provide a significant advantage to the students, enabling them to confidently enter the competitive world of hairdressing and entrepreneurship. The donation has been hailed as a commendable effort by local stakeholders, representing a tangible investment in the future of Sekondi’s artisan community. The long-term impact of this support remains to be fully assessed, but it undoubtedly signifies a significant step towards strengthening Ghana’s economic fabric.

The initiative underscores Mercer’s commitment to supporting local talent and fostering sustainable economic growth within Ghana. This proactive approach reflects a dedication to empowering Ghanaians through accessible resources and promoting the development of a skilled workforce. Further details regarding the specific training programs planned with the hairdryers are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
