The Konor and President of the Agotime Traditional Council, Nene Nuer Keteku IV, have issued a compelling plea to the government to expedite the completion of the Agenda 111 District Hospital at Kpetoe in the Agotime area of the Volta Region. He emphasized the critical need for a fully equipped district hospital, describing it as an essential service rather than a luxury, and stressed the urgent imperative to address persistent issues impacting the region’s residents. The appeal, delivered during the 31st Agotime Kente Festival under the theme ‘Agotime Kente: Honouring Our Heritage, Safeguarding Our Future,’ underscores a deeply felt sense of urgency regarding the region’s development. Nene Nuer Keteku IV stated that the current lack of a fully equipped district hospital forces residents to travel an average of 30 kilometers to Ho, a significant burden, particularly for vulnerable populations like women and children, who often face challenges accessing basic healthcare. The traditional ruler also raised serious concerns regarding the chronic water shortage in Kpetoe, highlighting reliance on untreated sources such as the Tordzie River, which presents a substantial risk to public health. He expressed frustration with the situation, stating that it places a heavy burden on families, especially those with limited access to clean water. The Konor further requested crucial infrastructure support for the Agotime Senior High School, specifically the reconstruction of its dilapidated administrative block, a safety concern for staff and students. He advocated for the school’s inclusion in the government’s planned infrastructure expansion programme, aiming to address the double-track system and enhance teaching and learning conditions. Recognizing the significance of Agotime’s rich kente heritage, the Konor announced plans to establish a Kente Village and Centre of Excellence, a significant initiative designed to promote artisan training, cultural research, and economic development within the area. The initiative will directly contribute to creating employment opportunities and bolstering the region’s economic vitality. The Konor acknowledged significant support from the Bank of Ghana for the project, urging other development partners to join efforts to complete the facility. He also called on the presidency to source authentic Kente directly from Agotime as official gifts for visiting foreign dignitaries, a move he believes will promote local craftsmanship and elevate Agotime’s standing on the global stage. The Konor underscored that culture, healthcare, education, water, and infrastructure are inextricably linked priorities, and that addressing these interconnected needs is paramount to securing a sustainable future for the people of Agotime. He cautioned against inaction, warning that continued delays will exacerbate existing challenges and negatively impact the quality of life for the community.
