A road accident occurred at the Ahwerase Christland School Junction in the Akuapem South Municipality of the Eastern Region on Friday, August 14, 2025, resulting in five injuries. The incident involved a Toyota Altis, registration number AW 750-15, and a Ford Ranger Crew Cab, registration number VR 775-X. The crash, which occurred around 8:38 PM, was reported to the Aburi Fire Station by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) after receiving a distress call. The GNFS dispatched a four-member crew, led by ADO II Kwarteng, to the scene.

The collision resulted in significant damage to the front bumper of the Toyota Altis, and partial damage to the offside of the Ford Ranger. Furthermore, a nearby electrical shop sustained damage to its structure. The accident caused a substantial amount of debris to be strewn across the road, including the damaged electrical shop’s awning.

The five injured individuals were immediately attended to by first responders on the scene. The extent of their injuries is currently unknown, but paramedics reported that several individuals sustained injuries ranging from minor abrasions to more significant trauma. The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation, and the Ghana National Fire Service has stated that they have not yet established a definitive cause.

The incident has raised concerns about road safety in the area, particularly given the proximity to the Christland School. Motorists are being urged to exercise caution and adhere to all traffic regulations to minimize the risk of further accidents. Local commercial transport operators in Kumasi are also facing increased fuel price pressures, with some charging additional Gh¢1 per liter, prompting concerns about the economic impact on the region.

The GNFS stated that the operation was completed and returned to the station at approximately 9:42 PM. They emphasized that preventing road crashes is a shared responsibility and that everyone must play their part in ensuring the safety of all road users. The incident highlights the potential for unexpected accidents, even in relatively well-maintained areas, and underscores the importance of ongoing vigilance and preparedness.

This incident is the latest in a series of road accidents in the region, and authorities are continuing to investigate contributing factors to ensure the safety of drivers and pedestrians. The GNFS is working with local authorities to implement measures to mitigate the risks associated with road travel.

Preliminary reports suggest the vehicles were travelling at a speed that could have contributed to the collision. The exact speed is still being determined.

The incident is being investigated by the police and the authorities are working to determine the full extent of the damage and potential liabilities.

The area surrounding the accident site is currently closed to traffic for safety reasons. Authorities are advising motorists to seek alternative routes and to be aware of reduced visibility conditions.

Several residents have expressed concern over the impact on local businesses and residents, particularly those located along the route to the Christland School.

The impact on the local economy is a significant consideration, and officials are urging a thorough assessment of the economic consequences of the accident.

The investigation is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as they become available. The road safety community is urging drivers to be mindful of their speed and to avoid distractions while driving.

Stakeholders are being asked to cooperate with authorities in ensuring the safety of the road network. The focus remains on preventing future incidents and protecting the lives of road users.
