The meticulous process of ballot sorting and counting has commenced in several regions following the closure of polling stations at 2:00 p.m. in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) regional executive elections, marking a crucial stage in the nationwide electoral cycle. This exercise, initially planned for the North East Region, has now expanded to encompass the Northern, Western, and Savannah Regions, where election officials are actively sorting and counting ballots across the country. Security personnel have been deployed nationwide to ensure order and protect delegates, candidates, and election officials, maintaining a stable environment for the exercise.

The North East Region experienced a preliminary disruption at the Wa Technical Institute following a brief interruption by delegates from the Nandom Constituency, momentarily halting the voting process. However, the elections in other regions have largely proceeded without significant disruptions, with significant progress being reported across the country. Party leaders have expressed optimism regarding the conduct of the polls and have emphasized the importance of unity, strengthened grassroots structures, and credible leadership – all essential for the NPP’s future success. The exercise is a key component of the NPP’s broader internal reorganisation, which began with polling station and constituency-level elections, and signifies a concerted effort to revitalize the party’s organizational capabilities.

In the Northern Region, approximately 300 police officers were deployed to assist with the sorting and counting of ballots, with Police Commander, DCOP Wisdom Lavoe, highlighting the importance of maintaining order and protecting delegates. The Upper West Regional elections, however, experienced a temporary setback at the Wa Technical Institute, where delegates from the Nandom Constituency disrupted the voting process for approximately 50 minutes after the scheduled deadline. Despite this interruption, the elections in other regions have largely proceeded without major complications. The focus now shifts to the comprehensive sorting, counting, and collation of ballots, with preliminary results expected to be declared after the completed processes.

The newly elected regional executives will play a vital role in overseeing the party’s activities within the region and coordinating their preparations for the 2028 general elections. The exercise underscores the NPP’s commitment to strengthening its regional presence and ensuring effective governance. Notably, a press conference was held by the newly elected Women’s Organiser for Oti Region, highlighting their commitment to the party’s future.

The regional elections represent a significant step in the NPP’s strategic realignment, with a renewed emphasis on strengthening local leadership and bolstering grassroots engagement, reflecting a broader vision for the party’s continued growth and influence. The continued monitoring of the election results will be crucial in assessing the party’s performance and determining the trajectory of its future efforts.”
