The National Identification Authority (NIA) is embarking on a significant expansion of its services, committing over 120 employment opportunities through the establishment of 24-hour Prestige Centres across Ghana. This initiative, driven by the government’s ambitious 24-hour economy agenda, seeks to significantly improve access to Ghana Card services beyond the Authority’s traditional working hours. The NIA, led by Executive Secretary Wisdom Kwaku Deku, announced the plans on Wednesday, August 12th, during a tour of the Authority’s first 24-hour Prestige Centre in Accra. The expansion will see the establishment of two additional centres in Kumasi over the weekend, with plans for further facilities to be established in various regions of the country. Deku emphasized the three-shift system employed to ensure continuous service availability, offering a range of services including first-time Ghana Card registration, replacement of lost or damaged cards, and updates to personal information. He stated that the NIA is partnering with private entities to facilitate this expansion, aiming to create new employment opportunities through these centres. The centres are specifically designed to cater to individuals with schedules that make it difficult to visit NIA offices during standard business hours, particularly those requiring urgent updates or replacements. Mr. Deku underscored the critical role of the Ghana Card in this expansion, highlighting its growing importance and the necessity for more flexible and convenient access for individuals with complex work schedules. Furthermore, the NIA is actively pursuing targeted co-location initiatives, with UCC postponing the matriculation of 100 co-location points in membership drive, a strategic move to bolster the Ghana Card’s widespread adoption. The move reflects a broader effort to modernize government services and enhance citizen engagement within the evolving digital landscape. The initiative represents a substantial investment in enhancing Ghana’s identification system and facilitating seamless transactions for the populace, solidifying the NIA’s commitment to providing accessible and reliable services.
