Kumasi Academy (KUMACA) has officially launched activities to mark its 70th anniversary, celebrating seven decades of academic excellence, discipline, and service to Ghana. The anniversary is themed ‘Shaping Character, Cultivating Minds and Nursing Souls,’ signifying a pivotal moment for the institution, marking a renewed commitment to producing responsible citizens for Ghana’s future.
The milestone seeks not only to celebrate the school’s remarkable journey but also to renew its dedication to nurturing the next generation of leaders and contributing to the nation’s progress. The launch brought together alumni and students, government officials, traditional leaders, parents, and other stakeholders to reflect on the institution’s achievements and discuss its future trajectory.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, underscored the paramount importance of discipline in education and personal development, emphasizing that discipline remains essential to achieving aspirations. He urged students to respect authority, honour their teachers, and shun violence, stressing that discipline is fundamental to their success. ‘Students gathered here, I am urging you: do not assault your teachers, do not vandalise school property even if you are in disagreement. Mob justice is one that our laws frown against. You are encouraged to use the laid-down procedures in seeking justice and redress as far as any issues are concerned,’ he said.
The Asokore Mampong Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Ben Abdallah Alhasan, pledged the Assembly’s unwavering support towards KUMACA’s ambition of attaining Grade A status. He assured the school community that the Assembly would work collaboratively with management, alumni, traditional authorities, and parents to address pressing needs and bolster its development. ‘Education is a fundamental driver of development and its advancement must not be left to government alone,’ he said.
He therefore called for collective efforts to improve schools and create an environment where students can excel and their talents can be nurtured for the benefit of society. The Global President of the Kumasi Academy Past Students Association (KAPSA AKUNINI), H.E. Okunini Harry Boakye, reaffirmed the commitment of past students to the continued development of their alma mater. He highlighted the importance of alumni in supporting teaching and learning, as well as infrastructure development, while urging past students to unite behind the school and help sustain its legacy. ‘I breathe KUMACA. I feel KUMACA. I smell KUMACA. I sleep with KUMACA in my heart,’ he said.
His remarks resonated deeply with the gathering, reflecting the strong bond forged between generations of students and alumni. The deep emotional connection between KUMACA and its past is captured vividly by Nana Boakye Yam Ababio, Nkwantakesehene and Chairperson for the occasion. ‘I breathe KUMACA. I feel KUMACA. I smell KUMACA. I sleep with KUMACA in my heart,’ he said.
As KUMACA prepares to celebrate its 70th anniversary in 2027, the milestone is being positioned as more than just a commemoration of the past. It is also a call for stakeholders to invest in the institution’s next chapter, encouraging alumni to contribute resources, mentorship, and expertise, while encouraging parents and guardians to partner with management in nurturing disciplined and academically excellent students. Teachers, staff, community leaders, and other stakeholders are also being urged to support initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure, student welfare, and educational programs. With renewed emphasis on discipline, collaboration, character development, and academic excellence, KUMACA is seeking to strengthen its position among Ghana’s leading schools.
