The former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Christine Tamakloe-Attionu, has been released from custody following a two-week period after the Court of Appeal overturned her conviction and acquitted her of seven8 charges.
This significant development follows the withdrawal by the Attorney-General of an application seeking to stay the execution of the appellate court’s judgment, effectively clearing the path for her release. The Court of Appeal, in its Wednesday, August 12, 2026 ruling, struck out the application as withdrawn, thereby removing the immediate impediment to her release.
The prosecution, which spanned from November 2013 to January 2017, involved allegations of a range of serious offenses, including conspiracy to steal, theft, causing financial loss to the State, money laundering, improper payment of public funds, and breaches of the Public Procurement Act.
Mrs Tamakloe-Attionu was convicted in April 2024 and sentenced to 10 years in prison in absentia. Following her return to Ghana in June 2026, following her extradition from the United States, her lawyers initiated a challenge at the Court of Appeal. The defense argued that the original conviction was flawed and that the appellate court’s decision should be upheld.
