Aide to New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD), Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has signaled his willingness to cooperate fully with the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in its ongoing investigation into alleged financial and procurement irregularities at the Secretariat. Mr Aboagye, who has been instrumental in the IMCCoD’s operational structure for nearly two decades, has declined to offer specific details regarding the allegations, citing the need to avoid public commentary. Speaking on Channel One TV’s ‘Face to Face’ program, Mr Aboagye stated that he would be available to cooperate with EOCO investigators whenever they require his presence, emphasizing his commitment to being available for any investigation. He expressed a desire to avoid any direct discussion of the matter, suggesting that EOCO’s investigation remains the primary focus and that any inquiries should be directed to the office itself. Mr Aboagye also declined to comment on the specifics of the allegations, clarifying that he was consciously avoiding public discussion to avoid potential disclosure of information that he was not authorized to share. He further asserted that his reluctance to address the situation stemmed from the ongoing nature of the investigation and the fact that EOCO’s scrutiny was still actively underway. The High Court, on August 3rd, issued a freezing order on five bank accounts and four landed properties belonging to Mr Aboagye as part of EOCO’s investigation. This temporary freeze, a significant step in the legal process, prevents transactions involving these accounts and restricts the sale, transfer, mortgage, or disposal of the properties until the court’s final orders are issued. EOCO’s investigation, which began in July 2026, centers on allegations of approximately GH¢55 million in alleged financial and procurement irregularities spanning from August 1, 2022, to February 2, 2025. The probe follows a forensic audit conducted by EOCO, which identified a pattern of suspected misappropriation, misuse, diversion, and theft of public funds within the Secretariat. The audit revealed a significant period of financial activity that prompted the investigation. In July 2026, EOCO confirmed that Mr Aboagye, Mr Appiah, and other individuals were being investigated over suspected financial wrongdoing. This latest development underscores the seriousness of the investigation and its potential impact on the government’s financial management practices.”
