Two teachers of Obuasi Senior High Technical School have been arrested by police following an alleged assault on the school’s headmaster, Abdulai Zakaria. The incident occurred on August 5, 2026, following tensions on campus following a reported altercation between students and the headmaster. Police say preliminary investigations indicate that the two teachers, whose identities remain undisclosed, allegedly instigated students to attack the headmaster. The incident stemmed from accusations made by some students that the headmaster was involved in ritual activities and also alleged inappropriate relationships with female students. The headmaster was hospitalized after being attacked, and after he was released, he gave a formal statement to police, detailing the accusations. According to Superintendent Mahama Iddrisu, three teachers were initially picked up for questioning following the headmaster’s statement. He stated that investigations later focused on two of the teachers, who are expected to be put before court. “The headmaster was attacked. He was hospitalised. After he was released, he gave a statement to the police and, in the statement he gave, he mentioned certain names. He says there were students who attacked him and there were teachers who instigated them to attack him,” he said. The headmaster was reportedly attacked and hospitalized, and the subsequent statement by the headmaster to the police revealed the alleged students’ involvement in the attack and the teachers’ alleged role in the incident. Police are awaiting an autopsy and possible DNA examination on a male foetus that was exhumed from a location on the school campus. The foetus, which was recovered on August 5, is currently being kept at the Obuasi Government Hospital morgue.
