A consortium comprising billionaire Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and British-Indian businessman Amit Bhatia has initiated discussions regarding a 30% stake in Liverpool Football Club, according to recent reports. The group, spearheaded by Mr. Bhatia and Mr. Eduardo Saverin, is now actively exploring a potential strategic investment in the club, sparking considerable interest within the sports industry. The initiative represents a significant development following a previous interest expressed by owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) in a potential joint venture. FSG, which acquired Liverpool in a £300 million deal in 2010, previously sold a minority stake in Anfield to global sports investment firm Dynasty Equity. This latest conversation has been reported by Adomonline.com, highlighting the consortium’s ambition to significantly impact Liverpool’s financial landscape. According to Forbes, Jeff Bezos, the richest person in the world, possesses an estimated net worth of $256 billion (£192bn) as of 2024. The consortium’s involvement signals a potentially substantial shift in Amazon’s strategic focus, with Bezos considering expanding into the sporting arena. The businessman’s ownership of e-commerce giant Amazon, alongside his ventures in digital media and aerospace company Blue Origin, underscores his broader interest in the sector. In January 2023, Liverpool became the top-earning Premier League club for the first time, a feat attributed to Deloitte’s analysis of their financial performance. Subsequently, the club announced record revenues of £703 million for the 2024-25 financial year. The discussions regarding a potential stake are now being actively pursued by the consortium, with Bezos’s potential involvement in the club’s future standing being a major point of focus.
