The Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has expressed profound admiration for the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) and its Chief Executive Officer, Justina Nelson, for the remarkable financial performance and strategic efforts to bolster the nation’s development through its contributions to the investment sector. The Ga Mantse highlighted the fund’s 2025 profit of GH¢1.1 billion and a significant increase in royalty collections, emphasizing its potential to significantly contribute to the nation’s economic prosperity.

King Tackie Teiko Tsuru commended Mrs. Nelson last Friday during a visit to the Ga State, marking the commencement of a courtesy call to support the Homowo celebrations and seek guidance from the Ga Mantse in resolving MIIF’s duties. The visit was specifically designed to pay homage to the Ga Mantse, bolster the festival’s significance within the Ga community, and seek the blessing of the Ga Mantse regarding MIIF’s operational responsibilities.

The Ga Mantse was particularly impressed by the substantial increase in royalties collected by the fund, reaching GH¢5.4 billion in 2025, a marked contrast to the previous year’s 4.9 billion, despite the amendment to the MIIF’s legal framework, which has reduced a considerable portion of these royalties. The initial law setting up the fund had been amended, removing a substantial amount of royalties retained by the fund.

King Tackie Teiko Tsuru underscored the importance of maintaining focus and resilience amidst the challenges facing the mining sector, including environmental degradation, heightened community expectations regarding responsible mining practices, and the restoration of degraded mining areas. He urged MIIF to remain steadfast and pursue investment ventures that generate lasting economic value for both current and future generations.

Furthermore, he cautioned against the fund’s allocation being reduced from 77.6% to just two percent under the amended Act, stating that this prompted management to innovate and explore new avenues for growth. Mrs. Nelson underscored that since assuming her role as CEO of MIIF a year and a half ago, internal and corporate governance structures had been strengthened through the support of the board and management, with the implementation of enhanced royalty payment regimes. She emphasized that the fund had maximized returns on its investments and generated more income for the state despite the reduced allocation.

Mrs. Nelson expressed her sincere gratitude to the Ga Mantse for the warm reception and the anticipation within the Ga community surrounding Homowo, highlighting the importance of the visit as a crucial opportunity to celebrate the festival and to seek guidance on the discharge of MIIF’s duties. She also stated that the visit was particularly notable because some of the royalties generated by MIIF were derived from activities such as sand winning, salt mining, and quarrying, which had taken place on Ga land. ‘Our mandate is to collect royalties for the state and to maximize them for current and future generations,’ she explained. The CEO of MIIF clarified that since the royalties were extracted from and generated from the land, the fund needed to pay homage to the chiefs and custodians of the land.

Mrs. Nelson further stated that the fund had maximized returns on its investments and generated more income for the state despite the reduced allocation. ‘Our main drive is to create wealth for the current and future generations,’ the CEO of MIIF said. She offered assurance that MIIF would continue to work towards generating sufficient wealth for current and future generations and supporting the country’s development.”
