The Odumase-Krobo Circuit Court has delivered a devastating sentence of seven years imprisonment to Nicholas Adjarlolo, a 23-year-old commercial Pragia rider, following a shocking incident involving a 13-year-old Junior High School student at Sawer, a suburb of Somanya. The court, presided over by Mr Kwasi Appiatse Abaidoo, has formally convicted Adjarlolo on a charge of defilement of a female under 16 years, specifically under Section 101(2) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
The incident began on July 23rd when a 41-year-old trader and mother of the victim, both residents of Sawer, reported to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service. The complainant, identified as Mrs. Inusah Fuseini, stated that her son, the victim, had not returned home by 2200 hours on that date. Following this report, the police received information that the accused, Adjarlolo, had taken the victim to his room at Sawer.
According to ASP Nana Akomeah, the complainant subsequently received information that the accused had engaged in sexual activity with the victim. The prosecution presented a medical form to the police confirming the incident, which revealed that the victim had been sexually assaulted. Investigation revealed that the accused admitted to having sexual intercourse with the victim and claimed she was his girlfriend, stating they had been in a relationship for approximately two months.
During the trial, the accused initially maintained he had been in a relationship with the victim for about two months. He further stated that he had engaged in sexual intercourse with the victim on two occasions. The prosecution presented evidence of the sexual intercourse, including photographic and video evidence, confirming the allegations.

Prosecutors emphasized that the prosecution must prioritize justice over merely convictions, highlighting the importance of upholding the law and ensuring the safety of victims. Mr. Abaidoo stated, “We are committed to providing justice for the victim and ensuring that the accused faces the consequences of his actions.” This case underscores the gravity of the crime and the seriousness with which the court views offenses against vulnerable individuals.
