The Ghana Police Service has announced a significant boost to its ranks following the successful interception of 866 parcels of suspected cocaine at the Tema Harbour on Monday, July 26, 2026, resulting in the arrest of ten suspects and the promotion of twenty officers across various regions. The announcements, made before formal confirmation of the substance’s identity, detail a series of operations conducted in the Bono East, Tema, and Western Central Police Regions. The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has recognized the contributions of these officers, initiating a series of promotions designed to bolster the force’s capabilities and address emerging crime trends. Specifically, twenty officers have been elevated to the rank of Chief Inspector, General, General Corporals, and General Lance Corporals. These promotions are attributed to the officers’ professionalism and courage in combating criminal activity. The promotions reflect a strategic shift in the Police Service’s approach, acknowledging the vital role these individuals play in maintaining law and order within the country. The IGP highlighted the importance of these efforts as part of the government’s broader commitment to strengthening national security. The promotion announcements were initially made on Monday, July 26, 2026, and have since been widely reported across various media outlets. The operations, which began in July 2026, focused on areas surrounding the Tema Harbour, encompassing a range of criminal activities including theft, drug trafficking, and robbery. Among the promoted officers are Chief Inspector Bede Nwinbomeh and General Sergeants Elijah Ndaga Yinimi and Kaifan Sulemanna, General Corporals Owusu Ansah Evans and Tansang Jonathan, and General Lance Corporals Osei Christopher Bonny, Kyei Francis, Ofori Francis, Anim Dominic, and Asante Isaac. Furthermore, Detective Chief Inspector Frank Dzah and Detective Inspectors Edem Ametowoga, Abroso, and Vincent Dankwah were granted automatic entry into the Police Academy. The Police Service also announced that the Detective Sergeant Salifu Yakubu and Samuel Mordzifa were promoted to their next ranks for their contributions to the operations. In addition to these promotions, six other personnel were also recognized for their specific roles and responsibilities, including the Detective Constable Adam Bakari Alhassan and Bakai Mark. The IGP emphasized that these promotions are a direct result of the officers’ dedication and commitment to upholding the law and protecting the citizens of Ghana. The IGP also addressed the ongoing investigation into the suspected bribery of Asante Berko, stating that the force is committed to pursuing all leads and bringing those responsible to justice. The promotion of these officers represents a significant investment in the future of the Ghana Police Service, signaling a renewed focus on proactive crime prevention and effective law enforcement. The promotion reflects a strategic reassessment of the force’s structure and capabilities, recognizing the critical role of experienced and dedicated officers in combating crime and maintaining public safety. The promotion also occurred within the context of the broader government’s initiative to build a second National Theatre in Kumasi. The police force has stated that it is committed to taking immediate action against individuals suspected of criminal activity and will continue to strengthen its investigative and enforcement capabilities.
