The court has formally confirmed the arrest of Larbi, who was found hiding in the ceiling of Pauline Dankwa-Smith’s residence, a suburb of Accra. The case began when Pauline Dankwa-Smith, a seamstress residing at Sakumono, noticed a man matching Larbi’s description in the backyard of her property near the water meter. According to Chief Inspector Josephine Lamptey, the complainant reported the sighting to the authorities. The prosecution subsequently detailed the events leading to the arrest. The court admitted Larbi to bail in the sum of GH¢200,000, with three sureties acting as guarantors. These sureties are required to provide land ownership documents to demonstrate their financial stability.
The prosecution’s narrative centers on a sequence of events that unfolded after the initial sighting. The complainant alleges that Larbi, exhibiting signs of agitation, signaled to her to cease attempting to raise an alarm, but she reacted by screaming for help and attempting to flee. The prosecutor stated that Larbi then rushed towards her, pushing her to the ground, and reportedly pointed a sharp metallic object at her, demanding her mobile phone. The prosecution claims that the complainant kept shouting for help, but Larbi seized her phone, discarded it shortly afterwards, and attempted to flee by scaling the compound wall.
Police subsequently located Larbi hiding in the ceiling of a neighboring house. The prosecution revealed that investigators recovered a pair of scissors, a hat, and slippers believed to be belonging to the accused, from the scene. Further investigation revealed that Larbi had recently been released from prison after serving a sentence for a similar offense, indicating a pattern of prior involvement in similar scenarios. The prosecution also stated that Larbi’s caution statement denied any involvement in the allegations, claiming he had gone to the complainant’s residence to look for scrap metals.
The case is ongoing, and the court is scheduled to hold a further hearing on August 17, 2026, to review the evidence and determine the appropriate course of action. The prosecution intends to continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident and to ensure that any further potential harm is prevented.
