What Too Short intended as loyalty did not land that way once people heard who he planned to celebrate with. His declaration that he would attend Diddy’s first party after prison drew criticism from people who felt the Bay Area veteran was brushing past the abuse surrounding Sean Combs. Too Short eventually returned with an apology and a fuller explanation. 50 Cent, never one to let a Diddy-adjacent controversy go untouched, immediately found his punchline.

“Too short sorry, sorry he said he going to a Diddy party. 👀 who going to that. LOL 😆,” 50 wrote while reposting Too Short’s apology on Instagram.

Too Short created the controversy during a recent appearance on The TMZ Podcast. Asked about Combs and the possibility of his return to public life, he made clear that he had no intention of abandoning someone he considered a friend. “I’m going to the Puff Daddy coming home party,” he told TMZ.

His comments were more complicated than outright support for everything connected to Combs. Too Short specifically condemned the 2016 hotel surveillance footage showing Combs assaulting Cassie Ventura and said that behavior was something he judged him for. Still, his willingness to publicly celebrate Combs after prison became the part that traveled, with critics questioning how he could separate a future welcome-home party from the violence and allegations that have reshaped Diddy’s public image.

Combs was convicted in July 2025 of two counts of transporting individuals for prostitution and later sentenced to 50 months in federal prison. A jury acquitted him of racketeering conspiracy and sex-trafficking charges. The surveillance footage showing him assaulting Ventura was also presented during his federal trial.

The backlash sent Too Short back to Instagram, where he admitted that he had spoken without fully understanding the breadth of the allegations surrounding Combs. “I was a little insensitive with my words,” he said in the apology. Too Short explained that while he knew about the Ventura footage, he had not realized how many women had accused Combs of abuse and said he began reading more after the criticism reached him.

He was also far more direct about where he stood after doing so. “I do not condone abuse in any kind of way, not emotional, not physical, not sexual, and I don’t support anybody that does it,” he said.

Short also clarified what he meant by attending a Diddy party. He said he had been to several of Combs’ gatherings over the years and was referring to the large celebrity parties he remembered, not the sexual encounters described during Combs’ trial. “I’ve been to dozens of his parties, and never once have I seen a naked person or a sexual act,” he said.
