Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin expressed concern over the escalating use of abusive, insulting, threatening and hate speech in Ghana’s national discourse, particularly on social media and other digital platforms. He stated that these trends should be a cause for concern for all Ghanaians, highlighting the expanding role of new media in democratic participation. While acknowledging the benefits of social media for expressing opinions and criticising officials, he cautioned against the degradation of public discourse and stressed that freedom of expression, including criticism, does not require abuse.
