The escalating controversy surrounding Ghanaian politician Afenyo-Markin has triggered a renewed investigation into allegations of extortion leveled against him by Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) Chief Executive Officer, Sammy Gyamfi. Speaking during Parliament’s emergency recall sitting on Monday, August 24, 2026, Mr Afenyo-Markin stated his willingness to cooperate fully with any competent investigation into the matter, asserting that he would fully participate in the pursuit of justice if the allegations are formally reported to the appropriate authorities. He challenged his accusers to report the matter to the Police, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) or any other authorized investigative body if they believe he has committed an offence. He asserted that if the allegations are formally reported, he would ‘submit himself to every investigation so that eventually my name is cleared,’ a statement reflecting a resolute stance against the accusations. Mr Afenyo-Markin revealed that he had already initiated legal action against several individuals and media organizations involved in the allegations, including a lawsuit filed in two separate cases over the claims. These cases, numbered GT 1029/2026 and GR/ACH/CC/C5/02/2026, are currently being managed by the Accra High Court and the Achimota Circuit Court, respectively. The first suit, titled Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin versus Samuel Adu-Gyamfi and Multimedia Group Limited, was filed in Accra High Court, while the second case, GR/ACH/CC/C5/02/2026, was filed in Achimota Circuit Court. Mr Afenyo-Markin reiterated his confidence in the courts’ ability to determine the matters fairly and appropriately, emphasizing that his decision to cooperate with the legal process was a ‘high moral ground’ in response to the allegations. He cautioned politicians and other actors against crossing what he considers unacceptable boundaries in political discourse, describing his actions as a commitment to upholding ethical standards and integrity. Furthermore, he defended his record in Parliament, insisting that he has carried out his duties as Minority Leader with integrity and commitment, stating that he has remained faithful to the responsibilities entrusted to him.
