Following their post-match analysis of Chelsea’s 3-2 win at Fulham, the long-standing adversaries, Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher, have revealed their thoughts, providing a glimpse into their respective footballing perspectives. A few weeks prior, Neville had predicted Chelsea would finish third and United would be in the top four, but as the season progresses, the pair shifted their focus, particularly considering Chelsea’s lack of European football – a significant edge they believe will give them. Neville also indicated Brighton will finish sixth, highlighting Fabian Hurzeler’s continuity and a potential Europa League qualification for the team. Carragher, meanwhile, predicted City would finish as runners-up, with Neville choosing United and Liverpool. Tottenham were predicted to finish seventh, with Brentford, who thumped the London rivals 3-0 on Saturday, but in truth, it could have been more. The Black Cats’ last season saw them qualify for the Europa League, and Carragher believes their European commitments this season will prove their downfall domestically. He began his reasoning with, ‘I think Sunderland last season reminded me a little bit of Sheffield United under Chris Wilder when they came up and had a really brilliant and finished high up the table.’ However, he added that a lot of the games, like Sunderland last season, were won by the odd goal. When you look at their underlying numbers last season, they were pretty close to relegation and I think with the European football it could be a risk to them.’ The duo predicted Fulham’s relegation, while Carragher also added Crystal Palace to that mix. In terms of individual accolades, Manchester City striker Erling Haaland was predicted as the top goalscorer. For player to watch, Carragher opted for Jeremy Jacquet, while Morgan Rogers was Neville’s pick.
