Sky Sports pundits have been busy with their annual Premier League predictions, offering insights into the upcoming season. Following their post-match analysis of Chelsea’s 3-2 win at Fulham, the long-standing adversaries, Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher, have revealed their thoughts, providing a glimpse into their respective footballing perspectives. The pair’s predictions, as always, have been marked by their contrasting viewpoints, particularly regarding their respective clubs: Manchester United and Liverpool. As expected, they didn’t see eye-to-eye, especially when it came to their respective beloved teams. However, they were united in their assessment of who would ultimately be crowned Premier League champions – with both backing Arsenal to successfully defend their title. Neville, speaking on the show, indicated that 100% was unequivocally Arsenal, stating their squad is exceptionally strong with signings like Ezri Konsa, Bruno Guimaraes, and Christos Tzolis. In the race for the top four, both predicted Manchester City and Chelsea to finish as runners-up, though Neville favored United and Carragher chose Liverpool. Neville revealed that if I’m being honest, he couldn’t separate United and Liverpool in fourth place, expressing no clear idea as to which would finish in the top four. A few weeks prior, Neville had predicted Chelsea would finish third and United would be in the top four, but as the season progresses, the pair shifted their focus, particularly considering Chelsea’s lack of European football – a significant edge they believe will give them. Neville also indicated Brighton will finish sixth, highlighting Fabian Hurzeler’s continuity and a potential Europa League qualification for the team. Carragher, meanwhile, predicted City would finish as runners-up, with Neville choosing United and Liverpool. Tottenham were predicted to finish seventh, with Brentford, who thumped the London rivals 3-0 on Saturday, but in truth, it could have been more. The Black Cats’ last season saw them qualify for the Europa League, and Carragher believes their European commitments this season will prove their downfall domestically. He began his reasoning with, ‘I think Sunderland last season reminded me a little bit of Sheffield United under Chris Wilder when they came up and had a really brilliant and finished high up the table.’ However, he added that a lot of the games, like Sunderland last season, were won by the odd goal. When you look at their underlying numbers last season, they were pretty close to relegation and I think with the European football it could be a risk to them.’ The duo predicted Fulham’s relegation, while Carragher also added Crystal Palace to that mix. In terms of individual accolades, Manchester City striker Erling Haaland was predicted as the top goalscorer. For player to watch, Carragher opted for Jeremy Jacquet, while Morgan Rogers was Neville’s pick. Neville hailed Arsenal’s summer signing, Bruno Guimaraes, as the ‘best signing by a mile,’ and declared it the best value for £75 million in the market. For player to watch, Carragher opts for Jeremy Jacquet, while Xabi Alonso got the nod for Neville. The Black Cats finished seventh last season to qualify for the Europa League, and Carragher believes their European commitments this season will prove their downfall domestically. The side to go down in his estimation? Sunderland. Despite losing at Hull City, Neville predicts Manchester United will finish fourth this season, having finished seventh last season to qualify for the Europa League. He began his reasoning with, ‘They’re going to be doing a lot of Thursday-Sunday,.’ ’I think Sunderland last season reminded me a little bit of Sheffield United under Chris Wilder when they came up and had a really brilliant and finished high up the table.’ But, a lot of the games, like Sunderland last season, were won by the odd goal. When you look at their underlying numbers last season, they were pretty close to relegation and I think with the European football it could be a risk for them.’ Both see Fulham’s relegation, while Carragher believes Coventry City will stay up. The side to go down in his estimation? Sunderland. For player to watch, Carragher opts for Jeremy Jacquet, while Xabi Alonso got the nod for Neville. The predictions were shown in full at the end of the Monday night show.
