The Minister of Labour, Jobs and Employment, Dr Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo, has issued a firm call for widespread participation from all stakeholders in the upcoming 2026 Health, Environment, Safety and Security (HESS) Leadership Conference. Speaking during a meeting with members of the HESS Leadership Conference, Dr Pelpuo emphasized the critical importance of proactively contributing to discussions centered around workplace safety and environmental protection. This initiative underscores a commitment to safeguarding workers from potential risks and ensuring a secure working environment.
Dr Pelpuo stated that the Ministry’s primary focus during the conference will be to receive proposals that will shape government policies and programs concerning occupational health and safety. He highlighted the significance of collaborative efforts, stressing that a healthy and productive workforce is foundational to Ghana’s economic prosperity. ‘A healthy and secure workforce is essential to sustaining economic growth,’ Dr Pelpuo stated, ‘and it’s imperative that workers return home safely to their families,’ he added.

The advisory council member, Prince Obeng Afful, confirmed that the HESS Leadership Conference is actively collaborating with the Ministry to enhance occupational health and safety standards. He stated that the Ministry is a key partner in promoting safer workplaces throughout both the public and private sectors, contributing to a unified legal framework for workplace health and safety through the proposed Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Bill. This bill, expected to establish a comprehensive framework, will solidify a legal basis for workplace safety across Ghana.
