The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has announced a significant government initiative: the establishment of a Gold Village in Accra by 2027, a strategic move designed to bolster local jewellery production, stimulate job creation, and significantly enhance Ghana’s economic value derived from its gold reserves. This ambitious project, spearheaded by Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi, represents a pivotal component of President John Dramani Mahama’s ‘Reset Agenda’ – a renewed focus on retaining value from Ghana’s gold industry within the domestic economy. The Gold Village’s development is a collaborative effort, with GoldBod Jewellery Limited, a subsidiary of GoldBod, leading the implementation. According to Mr. Gyamfi, the project will provide a platform for the production and distribution of locally made gold jewellery and artefacts, connecting Ghanaian artisans and businesses to a wider international market. This initiative has been in the planning stages for several years, and the government has allocated significant resources, estimated at nearly nine metric tonnes of gold refined in Ghana annually before export, as a key element of this transformation. The initial investment, spearheaded by the government, has been bolstered by a commitment to refining refinery fees, fostering sustainable employment opportunities, and encouraging entrepreneurship within the jewellery and gold fabrication industries. The proposed facility will encompass skills development and enterprise creation, aiming to provide young people and businesses with valuable opportunities. Mr. Gyamfi emphasized that the implementation will be overseen by GoldBod Jewellery Limited, ensuring the project aligns with the government’s priorities and has the full backing of President Mahama. He stated, ‘This is a major priority for the government, a testament to the importance of gold to Ghana’s economic future.’ The National Mining Dialogue 2026, organized by Asempa FM and its Ekosiisen program, in collaboration with Semmis DS and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, highlighted the need for community involvement in mining decisions, as underscored by Dr. Nana Kwao Adarkwa Bediako III. This collaborative effort underscores the government’s commitment to leveraging gold as a cornerstone of Ghana’s economic development, with a clear vision for a thriving gold industry and a prosperous future for the nation.” ,
