August 17, 2026 – Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, the General Overseer of Action Chapel International, has issued a significant statement regarding the substantial financial gains occurring within Ghana’s gold sector, particularly involving foreign nationals. Speaking on Joy FM’s ‘Super Morning Show,’ Archbishop Duncan-Williams expressed considerable concern over a lack of public awareness regarding the scale of wealth generated by these activities, highlighting what he describes as a ‘hidden’ financial flow. He stated that, according to his observations, many Ghanaians are unaware of the substantial sums of money being made by foreign nationals involved in illegal gold mining, commonly known as galamsey. This revelation, he explained, stems partly from information he’s encountered during his travels outside Ghana, suggesting a complex and potentially lucrative operation. The Archbishop detailed instances where foreign nationals are utilizing ‘our own people’ to front the operations, raising questions about a potential lack of understanding and oversight within the Ghanaian community. He specifically pointed to the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) and alleged unhappiness among some foreign nationals regarding the board’s operations, suggesting a possible disconnect between the regulatory framework and the financial realities. The concern escalated when he acknowledged risks faced by security personnel and officials involved in combating galamsey, emphasizing the need for both public support and spiritual backing to ensure effective enforcement of the law. He stressed that while the law itself must be applied, prayers for those tasked with upholding the law are crucial, and he cautioned that enforcement carries significant risks. The Archbishop’s remarks come amidst a renewed focus on the environmental and economic repercussions of galamsey, including deforestation, water pollution, and the loss of valuable natural resources. Authorities are continuing efforts to tackle illegal mining through a multi-faceted approach, including intensified monitoring and enforcement, and addressing the involvement of foreign nationals within the industry. He urged Ghanaians to remain vigilant and supportive of efforts to protect Ghana’s natural wealth and the integrity of its resources. The full interview with Archbishop Duncan-Williams is now available below.” ,
