The former Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed, has issued a firm statement regarding the potential for bribery and undue influence within the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Northern Regional Election Committee, asserting that no member can be swayed to favor any candidate. Speaking to the media at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, where the elections are underway, Saeed emphasized the deliberate structure of the committee, highlighting the exclusion of regional executives, including the NPP National Director of Elections, Evans Nimako, and other experienced members. Mr. Saeed clarified that the committee’s composition was specifically designed to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process, the credibility of the NPP, and the reputation of the Northern Region. He stated unequivocally that the committee is dedicated to protecting the election’s foundation, emphasizing that no regional executive is permitted to participate. ‘We are not utilizing any regional executive to be part of the committee,’ he asserted, reinforcing the commitment to impartiality. He further underscored that the committee’s core objective is to maintain the credibility of the elections and the NPP, assuring the public that vigilance and close monitoring are crucial to detect any suspicious activity. The election proceedings involve a diverse range of roles, including the Regional Chairman, First and Second Vice Chairpersons, Secretary, Treasurer, Organiser, Women’s Organiser, Youth Organiser, Communications Officer, and Nasara Coordinator. Delegates are voting to elect regional executives, and the committee is expected to actively engage journalists to monitor the process closely and identify any potential issues that could compromise the election’s integrity. Mr. Saeed also addressed the issue of galamsey, stating that the challenge is prosecution, not arrest, and cautioned against any attempts to undermine the elections through illicit activities.
