The Diaspora Zongo Youth (DZY) has issued a forceful condemnation of a man captured in a viral video allegedly assaulting a suspect in a recent incident. The video, circulating widely on social media, depicts a Muslim man slapping Apostle Daniel Junior Yaw Adjei, who was subsequently detained by police over alleged provocative comments targeting the Prophet Mohammed. The Public Relations Officer of the DZY, Al-Asbat Sidi, described the actions as unlawful and demanded immediate arrest and prosecution of the individual.
Sibamay Zakaria, captured in the video, was interviewed on Kuro Yi Mu Nsem on Nhyira FM in Kumasi. He questioned how the man, identified as the alleged assailant, gained access to the suspect’s police premises, highlighting the lack of investigation into the circumstances surrounding the assault. He stated, “After seeing what he did, we’ve all totally condemned his actions. What he did was unlawful. I don’t even understand how and under which locus he barged into the CID headquarters to interrogate the pastor, not to talk of him slapping him,’ he said.
Mr. Sidi, the DZY’s spokesperson, requested police officers who allegedly allowed Zakaria to enter the suspect’s office to be questioned, emphasizing the need for accountability. He further pointed out that the CID officers’ actions were concerning, questioning why they allow individuals who are not police officers to enter a police office to physically assault the suspect, particularly given the provocative nature of the comments. He stated, “The CID officers there must be questioned. Why do you allow someone who isn’t a police officer to enter your office to even slap the suspect? On my Facebook wall, I even wrote he must be arrested and interrogated on how he was able to enter the office,” he told Nhyira FM.
On Wednesday, August 12, 2026, the National Signals Bureau and the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement teams arrested Apostle Daniel Adjei and a 35-year-old imam, Masud Abdullah, over allegedly inciteful comments. Mr. Sidi commended the police for the arrests, arguing that the move would ease tensions among Muslims who were angered by the comments. He further expressed concern about the increasing use of unguarded and provocative comments, warning that such statements could inflame religious tensions if left unchecked. He stated, “The arrest should not be viewed as an attempt to appease angry Muslims, but rather as a step towards maintaining peace and responsibility in Ghana’s media space. We need to address these incidents through proper legal channels, ensuring tolerance and peaceful coexistence among Ghana’s various religious communities.”
According to the police, Zakaria is currently in custody assisting with investigations and is expected to be arraigned before the court over the alleged assault. The incident at the Ofankor barrier accident has raised concerns about potential traffic congestion, with police reporting that the toll has risen to 11. NRSA is implementing measures to curb recurring accidents at the Ofankor Barrier, aiming to improve road safety within the region.”
