Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence said that long-range strikes on Russia, the aggressor state, had hit 51% of its oil refining capacity. According to Defence Minister Yevhen Khmara, this is a significant blow to Russia’s economy, its ability to wage aggression and supply its troops. The Guardian reports.

Ukrainian forces have repeatedly attacked oil refineries across Russia, from Moscow to Siberia. According to the outlet, these attacks previously caused a large-scale fuel crisis in Russia, forcing the Russian authorities to restrict gasoline sales.

Russian authorities in the aggressor state have not released data on the extent of damage to oil infrastructure. At the same time, Russian President Vladimir Putin acknowledged a partial economic effect from the attacks during a meeting of the Valdai Club, saying they had cost Russia approximately 1% of its gross domestic product.

On Monday, Russian aerial bombs hit a residential district of Kharkiv. According to officials, six people were killed and nearly 60 others were injured. French President Emmanuel Macron condemned Moscow’s decision to intensify strikes on civilian infrastructure and facilities.

On the same day, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that two Russian drones attacked a civilian vessel carrying corn in neutral waters of the Black Sea. According to him, the vessel belonged to a Turkish company, and Azerbaijani and Indian citizens were aboard. Romanian authorities reported that the Royad Mammadov vessel caught fire and sank near Romania’s coast: two crew members were killed, while another 11 were rescued.
