President John Dramani Mahama has directed that a meeting be convened with the leadership of the teacher unions to discuss their demands and the implications for the national purse and the compensation budget.
The meeting is scheduled for Friday, October 2, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Ministry of Education in Accra.
In an invitation signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr Callistus Mahama, key government officials and agency heads have been asked to attend the engagement.
The invitation noted the fiscal implications of the unions’ demands and asked participants to bring the relevant information to support informed deliberations.
It also asked invitees to treat the meeting as a priority and to ensure punctual attendance.
The ongoing strike was declared by the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), and the Pre-Tertiary Teachers Association of Ghana (PRETAG).
The unions cited concerns including unpaid promotion arrears, delays in negotiating a new Collective Agreement, and the non-implementation of the Deprived Area Allowance.
They began the industrial action on 25 September 2026, after their demands remained unresolved.
