Gambia’s 4-2 victory over Ghana in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers was not surprising, as Johnathan McKinstry, coach, stated that he did not anticipate the Scorpions securing the points. Ghana initially controlled the game, scoring two goals from Ernest Nuamah and Felix Afena-Gyan, but The Gambia responded with two goals in five minutes to level the score. McKinstry indicated he expected the Black Stars to lose control and that a connection with Ghanaian football culture may have helped them achieve the win. The Scorpions scored a fourth goal in the closing stages, leaving McKinstry pleased with the team’s performance and the last few minutes.
