The European Union has unveiled a substantial €710 million ($810 million) commitment to humanitarian aid, marking a significant expansion of its efforts to support people affected by crises, natural disasters, and conflicts worldwide, with a particular focus on Africa. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen made the announcement on Saturday following the cancellation of New York’s Global Citizen Festival, where she was scheduled to address the topic of global resilience. Von der Leyen stated, “Conflicts, extreme weather events, and rising living costs are throwing the lives of many people around the world into disarray.”
