Nicki Minaj has issued a compelling and somewhat controversial message to young voters, urging them to support Donald Trump and cast their ballots, despite her previous assertion that she is not a U.S. citizen. In a recent interview with Lara Trump, scheduled for Saturday, September 26th at 9 PM ET, Minaj stated, “Now is not the time to think that your voice will not be heard. Your voice will not only be heard, but your voice is very necessary right now for the country and for the world,” further adding, “This is your country, this is your world…Vote red.” She also shared a tweet referencing the SAVE ruling, which allows for expanded citizenship checks using a federal database, and highlights her recent association with Trump’s administration. This comes amidst a broader debate surrounding the administration’s efforts to expand eligibility for public benefits, particularly through the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements program (SAVE). The Supreme Court ruling, issued January 6th, allows the Trump administration to resume these expanded checks, utilizing a federal database to search voter information in bulk. Previously, Minaj declared in a 2024 livestream that she was finalizing citizenship paperwork after displaying a Trump Gold Card, but she has not publicly confirmed that she became a citizen. The Federal Elections Commission requires voters to be U.S. citizens, a stance that appears ironic considering Minaj’s recent alliance with President Trump. A Supreme Court order, issued in 2024, allows the administration to expand eligibility checks using the SAVE system, and officials may still make individual checks. Federal election officials have expressed concerns about the potential for private information to be misused, citing a Texas voter who lost registration and two others who needed to prove citizenship to remain registered. Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson’s dissent, joined by Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan, argued that the majority failed to adequately address the harm to lawful voters. Jackson cited findings that one Texas voter unknowingly lost her registration and two others had to prove citizenship to remain registered, highlighting the administrative challenges of the expanded system. Despite this, Minaj has actively supported Trump’s campaign, appearing on Laura Ingraham’s Fox News show, where she stated, “Absolutely nothing. I am honored to have the opportunity to work with this administration and to work with President Trump.”
