The parent, a driver, stated that his daughter obtained an aggregate 9 in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) but still hasn’t been placed in any SHS as of Friday, a period of considerable anxiety for him and his family. He explained that the prolonged lack of clarity regarding placement opportunities had pushed him to seek external assistance.
Speaking to JoyNews’ Clinton Yeboah at the KTI Hall resolution centre in Kumasi, he emphasized the desperation to ensure his daughter has a school to attend. He indicated that he initially received direction to Presby Girls’ Senior High School (PHS) after a suggestion from someone affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, but his daughter did not wish to attend the school, prompting a subsequent search for alternative placements. According to the parent, the preferred school he sought was also unavailable through the placement process, necessitating a request for help from an individual believed to possess influence over securing a placement for his daughter.
The parent detailed a series of experiences, including a delay in receiving placement confirmation, and recounts a specific incident where someone at the placement centre inquired whether he was affiliated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and whether he had a party card. He claimed this inquiry suggested a connection to the NDC, suggesting that having a NDC card could facilitate assistance with placement. However, the parent asserted that he did not want to politicize the situation, stressing that his primary concern was securing a school for his daughter.
The situation has sparked a broader concern within the KTI Hall resolution centre, where parents and their children are repeatedly seeking assistance with the CSSPS process. Several reports have emerged detailing the lack of placements for some children, while others report that children have been assigned schools they did not select. The affected parents are advocating for expedited resolution of pending cases and improvements in communication at the resolution centers to reduce waiting times and repeated visits, as the uncertainty surrounding placement is creating considerable anxiety for many.
