Following the government’s Position Paper on July 30, 2026, the committee undertook a second review, producing a position paper articulating the party’s views. This document was subsequently forwarded to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s flagbearer, and the National Executive Committee (NEC) for consideration and adoption. The government has already accepted a considerable number of proposed amendments to the 1992 Constitution, including a five-year term for the President and Parliament, the election of District Chief Executives, a 300-member limit for Parliament, and a reduction in the minimum age for presidential candidates from 40 to 35 years. These changes are a direct result of the government’s own proposals, demonstrating a collaborative approach to the constitutional reform.
The Constitution Review Implementation Committee (CRIC), chaired by Presidential Legal Counsel Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong and comprising Justice Srem Sai, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, Charlotte Osei, Dr. Rainer Akumperigya, Emelia Ankomah, Kwame Ayimadu Antwi, Samuel Passah, Oliver Baker Vormawor, Salamatu Iliasu, and Eric Owusu-Mensa, has been established to oversee the implementation of these proposed changes. The CRIC’s mandate is to ensure the constitutional review process is executed effectively.
The committee’s membership includes prominent figures like Justice Srem Sai, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, Charlotte Osei, Dr. Rainer Akumperigya, Emelia Ankomah, and Kwame Ayimadu Antwi, representing key sectors within the government and legal community. Samuel Passah represents local government, while Eric Owusu-Mensa represents Parliament.
