The University of Ghana (UG) has extended admissions for a select range of programmes within its School of Information and Communication Studies, granting prospective students until September 18th to submit their applications. Speaking on JoyFM Super Morning Show on August 28th, Lecturer in the Department of Communications Studies, Dr Aurelia Ayisi, emphasized the importance of seizing this extended timeframe. ‘Recently, the admissions process was extended, so for those of you listening and thought you missed the deadline, you haven’t,’ she stated, reassuringly. Dr. Ayisi further elaborated that the extension provides a much-needed opportunity for applicants who may have been hesitant to submit their applications due to time constraints. The extended timeframe is available for students pursuing programmes offered by both the Department of Communication Studies and the Department of Information Studies. The Department of Information Studies boasts a comprehensive selection of postgraduate programmes, including a highly sought-after Master’s in Information Studies, an MPhil in Information Studies, and a PhD in Information Studies. Dr. Ayisi highlighted that the Master’s in Information Studies is offered in both regular and sandwich formats, providing students with flexibility in their learning schedules. The Department of Communication Studies also offers a robust array of postgraduate options, encompassing the MA in Communication Studies, MA in Strategic Communication, MPhil in Communication Studies, and a prestigious PhD in Communication Studies. The MA in Strategic Communication, for example, is offered in both regular and flexible formats, allowing students to attend classes in the evenings and on weekends. According to Dr. Ayisi, the flexible program has garnered significant interest and is performing exceptionally well. The University of Ghana has been proactively responding to the World Bank’s ‘Big Push’ warning, announcing a comprehensive maintenance and repair program to address infrastructure challenges across the region. This initiative, spearheaded by the Roads Minister, aims to ensure the continued safety and efficiency of transportation networks, reflecting a commitment to public infrastructure investment. Furthermore, the extended admissions program is a significant step towards bolstering the department’s academic reputation and attracting a diverse cohort of talented students.
