The Ghana Police Service has issued a directive restricting the operation of concrete mixer trucks within Accra and Tema from August 28th to Sunday, August 30th, 2026, following a collaborative meeting with owners and operators of transit mixer trucks. This directive follows an engagement initiated on Thursday, August 27th, under the auspices of the National Security Secretariat, led by Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno. The Police emphasized that the temporary suspension is a necessary measure to facilitate the clearing and cleaning of road surfaces impacted by concrete and other materials originating from these trucks. Concerns were raised regarding the spillage of concrete and other materials onto roads by the trucks, which stakeholders highlighted as obstructing traffic, posing hazards to motorists and other road users, and contributing to road surface damage. Operators were instructed to ensure that concrete or other materials are not discharged or left on roads during transportation and operations. According to the Police, concrete mixer trucks will not be permitted to operate on roads within Accra and Tema during this three-day period. The Service explicitly warned that any vehicle found operating in violation of the directive will face appropriate enforcement action, in accordance with established legal frameworks. This action is part of a broader effort to address road safety concerns and safeguard critical road infrastructure. The Police have also announced that two suspects have been arrested in connection with a recent robbery incident in Gomoa Dominase, resulting in the death of a mobile money vendor. The arrest occurred at the Koforidua Police Training Centre. The Police stated the suspension is intended to address a significant priority: protecting road safety and ensuring the integrity of road infrastructure. The directive reflects a commitment to maintaining public order and safeguarding the movement of essential transportation vehicles within the region. The Police are urging all stakeholders to cooperate with the implementation of this temporary measure to maintain a safe and efficient transportation network.
