The Central East Regional Police Command has launched a comprehensive investigation into a disturbing robbery incident that occurred at Gomoa Dominase in the Central Region on June 6, 2026, resulting in the death of a 30-year-old mobile money vendor. This incident has triggered a significant police operation, resulting in the arrest of two suspects, Isaac Baffoe, alias Kwame Cheddo, and Prince Tawiah Baidoo, identified as a phone technician based at Kwesimintsim. The investigation, initially spurred by a recovered iPhone 13 Pro, has uncovered a network of criminal activity that extends beyond the immediate robbery itself.
On Saturday, June 6, 2026, at approximately 10:00 AM, a mobile money vendor, identified as Samuel Awuo, was targeted during a robbery at the Gomoa Dominase mobile money vending point. According to Police statement signed by DSP Victor Kofi Dosoo, Head of Public Affairs, the investigation commenced following the detection of the stolen iPhone 13 Pro, which had been activated, within the scene. This discovery immediately shifted the focus of the investigation.
The investigation led to the apprehension of Isaac Baffoe, alias Kwame Cheddo, at Kwesimintsim in Takoradi, Western Region, on June 26, 2026. The suspect was apprehended during a routine patrol when he was discovered concealing the iPhone 13 Pro in a safety case containing other mobile phone accessories. A search of Baffoe’s residence revealed the recovered iPhone, along with a box containing the original motherboard, Face ID components, and camera sensors – all of which were reportedly taken from the deceased’s phone.
Further investigation revealed a connection between Baffoe and Prince Tawiah Baidoo, a phone technician residing at Kwesimintsim. Police learned that Baidoo confessed to replacing the motherboard, Face ID component, and camera sensors of the stolen iPhone. The cost associated with this replacement was estimated at GH¢2,650. The police investigation is ongoing, and the recovered components have been secured as exhibits.
The Central East Regional Police Command has intensified its efforts to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the robbery and related criminal activities. They are appealing to the public to provide any information, no matter how seemingly insignificant, that could assist in the investigation. The Command has activated a dedicated hotline at 191 and 18555, and has urged individuals to report any credible information to the nearest police station. The investigation is ongoing, and the police are exploring potential connections to other incidents in the region, including a reported incident of alleged lynching of a young man in Daboya, where two suspects were arrested.
