Oswal Investments Limited (OIL) has undertaken a strategic initiative to bolster the durability and quality of major intersections along the Adenta-Dodowa road, a project currently underway under the government’s ‘Big Push’ program. The project manager, Mr. Gabriel Foli, has emphasized the crucial role of pavement blocks in mitigating the degradation often experienced at these critical junctions. According to the project’s plan, the implementation of this innovative approach is intended to significantly extend the lifespan of the existing infrastructure, addressing a persistent challenge – the formation of rutting and deterioration of the asphalt surface – prevalent at these intersections. The decision to utilize pavement blocks was driven by a need to provide a robust solution that can withstand the heavy vehicular traffic and dynamic turning movements characteristic of the area. Mr. Foli explained that the intersections experience a high concentration of vehicle weight and turning, leading to a significant amount of friction and wear on the existing asphalt. ‘More often you will realize that at the intersections you will see the effect of traction and rutting, the pavement blocks can withstand and deal with that phenomenon,’ he stated, highlighting the specific design advantages of this method. He further elaborated that the company has prioritized this approach because it offers a more durable and reliable solution compared to traditional asphalt repairs. The project, which is expected to conclude by the close of the year, aims to achieve a seamless transition to the right-hand side asphalted section of the road. The initiative is being driven by President Mahama and Oswal Investments Limited, with a focus on enhancing traffic flow and alleviating the challenges faced by commuters. While motorists and residents have expressed considerable satisfaction with the contractor’s speed and quality of work, some have noted a related issue – dust challenges. Drivers, often opting to drive on the extended gravel sections of the carriageway, which provides an alternative route, are contributing to increased dust levels. Despite this, Mr. Foli reiterated that the company is actively mitigating dust by regularly watering the road surface. The company has successfully managed traffic flow by maintaining one lane open, while simultaneously carrying out periodic repairs to ensure smooth vehicle movement. It is anticipated that the project will complete one lane of the Adenta-Dodowa road by December, a development expected to substantially improve traffic flow and significantly ease the challenges faced by commuters and surrounding residents.
